KPK unveils decree on revoking permits for 4 mines in Raja Ampat not yet available

Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that until now they have not found a decision letter (SC) to revoke permits for 4 nickel mines in Raja Ampat, West Papua. In fact, last June the government announced that it had withdrawn four mining business permits (IUP) in the area. Head of the KPK Region V Coordination and Monitoring Task Force, Dian Patria, previously said that 70 percent of the area of one of the islands being mined, namely Manuran, has been depleted. This is one of the places whose mining permit is believed to have been withdrawn by the government. “Well, here’s an example, look at the red ones. This is Manuran Island which was removed yesterday in Raja Ampat. The island is almost 70% gone,” said Dian at the KPK Building, Kuningan, South Jakarta on Tuesday (10/21/2025). SCROLL TO CONTINUE CONTENT Dian said she checked with a number of relevant agencies for a decree on the recall, but there was still nothing. He also questioned the government’s seriousness in withdrawing the mining permit. “But to be honest, until now we have never seen the revocation decision. We asked Minerba, they said it was with BKPM. Asked BKPM, ‘There is no letter from Minerba yet’. Checked again, ‘Oh, the letter has been received, it is being processed’,” he said. “Is the government serious or not about revoking the 4 IUPs in Raja Ampat that was announced at the State Palace but until now there are no documents, yes,” he added. Furthermore, Dian said that the authority to revoke the permit was the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). For field observations, there was no mining activity after the government announced the withdrawal of permits. “The one who will revoke it will be BKPM. Because the permission is from OSS, BKPM, they are the ones who revoke it, that’s right. And as far as I know in the field, from friends in the field, it’s still the status quo, there is no activity,” he said. Previously, the government announced the withdrawal of the permits of the four companies last June. The four companies’ IUP was revoked due to various considerations. “Mr. President decided, paying attention to everything that exists, considered it comprehensively, and Mr. President decided that the four IUPs outside Gag Island will be revoked. So as of today, the government has revoked four IUPs in Raja Ampat,” said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, during a press conference at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (10/6). Bahlil said there are four companies out of five whose IUPs have been revoked. There is one company whose IUP has not been revoked, namely PT GAG Nickel. Bahlil said from an environmental perspective, some of the IUPs belonging to the four companies are also included in the geopark area. Therefore, his party revoked the IUPs of the four companies. “Even though the debate that will take place is that these permits were given before we designated the geopark area, the president has special and serious attention on how to make Raja Ampat a world tourist attraction and for the sustainability of our country,” he said.
