Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team Captain Chamari Atapattu expressed the confidence that a Women’s ADI World Championship will win an Asian team this time. He spoke to the media in Guwahati on Monday, saying that Asian teams are constantly doing well, and this time any of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan or Bangladesh can become champions. Sri Lanka returns to the World Women’s World Championships after eight years and also holds the tournament together. The team plays five of their seven group matches on their home field. Atapattu, who describes it as a great opportunity for the team, said: “It’s always special to play at home. We hope the drying of an Asian team will end this time and the trophy will remain here.” The achievement of Asian teams in history so far has only three countries won the Women’s World Championships: Australia (seven times), England (four times) and New Zealand (once). India made the final twice, but failed. As such, Attapattu believes that Asian teams this time have a golden opportunity to change history. The goal is to come to the semi -finals. Atapattu said the main goal of Sri Lanka is to reach the semi -finals. “If we perform well in the League Road and reach the Final Four, it will be a great achievement for us. From there we will try to move forward.” India’s challenge will face India’s first match of Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Atapattu admitted that it would not be easy to defeat India on its home field. “India is a strong team and understands the circumstances very well. But our team has played good cricket for the past twelve months. If we follow our plans properly and do not come under pressure, we can win.” Share this story -tags
