Officials said a leopard attacked a man in a field adjacent to his village in Palakwah area of the district, leaving one with serious eye injuries while two others suffered minor injuries. Some passers-by heard the roar of the leopard and got scared and started running towards the village, when the animal attacked them and injured three villagers. After the incident, a group of villagers chased the leopard with sticks and injured it. He was later seen hiding in the bushes in a nearby forest, from where forest department personnel caught him in an injured condition, a local person said. Villagers claimed that leopards are often seen around farms, posing a security threat to residents, especially children, who visit the area. He also requested the forest officials to release the animal away from the village. There was an atmosphere of panic in the village until the leopard was caught. Stressed residents not only locked their cattle in enclosures but also forced their children to stay indoors on Diwali. Forest officials said that the injured leopard will be taken to the rehabilitation centre. (With news agency PTI)
