Life can stop as soon as the blood flow stops in the veins, know how to take care of them
New Delhi, October 16 (IANS). The flow of blood in our body maintains the continuity of life, and the arteries work to direct this flow. They are also called the rivers of life of the body, because just as rivers feed the fields, arteries work to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the tissues of the entire body. The main function of the arteries is to transport oxygen-rich blood from the heart to every corner of the body. Their walls are thick and flexible, allowing them to tolerate high blood pressure. The aorta is the largest artery, while many specialized arteries throughout the body such as the cervical, renal, hepatic, pulmonary, femoral and radial arteries supply blood to various organs. Arteries also contribute to the control of blood pressure, the maintenance of body temperature and energy balance. If it is blocked, oxygen does not reach the heart, brain and other organs, which can be life-threatening. Arterial diseases such as fatty deposits and calcium deposits in the arteries, peripheral artery diseases, aneurysms and stroke have become common today, most of which are caused by lifestyle and diet related factors. But it is possible to keep the arteries healthy with Ayurveda and home remedies. Garlic is considered a natural blood purifier, reducing cholesterol and preventing blockage. Lemon and honey are helpful in dissolving fat. Medicines like ginger, Triphala, Giloy and Arjuna bark keep the blood flow smooth and the arteries flexible. A daily walk of 30 minutes along with pranayam like Anulom-Vilom and Kapalbhati increases the strength of the arteries. Antioxidants found in fruits such as apple and pomegranate reduce inflammation, while water kept in a copper vessel purifies the blood. Ayurveda says that pure blood is the root of longevity. Therefore, taking care of the arteries, not just the heart, is key to maintaining a healthy life throughout life. –IANS PIM/ABM
