A unique dam on the banks of the Gandak River in the Chhapra district Bihar protects the lives and property of millions of two State-Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The dam is known as ‘Ring Dam’ and its construction is seen as a great achievement in the field of disaster management. This dam is built at a cost of about Rs 50 crore and largely has control over the problem of terrible floods that come every year. The construction of this dam became a need of the time when the swollen stream of the Gandak River destroyed the towns every year by destroying flooding. The situation was so big that people of flood -driven areas were forced to stay on the roofs of their homes for months. At the time, the floodwaters were filled with 15 to 18 feet, which affected more than one Lakh people. Earlier in the day, people spent the day jeopardizing their lives and they were also threatened by toxic snakes and other animals. After the establishment of the Ring Dam, this heinous situation improved significantly. Now this dam not only prevents floodwaters to enter towns, but also provides a sense of safety to the people. Local villagers say this dam is no less than a blessing to them. The rainy season is no longer so narrow to him. Apart from the Chhapra district, many towns in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh also received relief from the construction of the dam. The special thing is that the administration of the two states worked together during the plan and implementation of this project. As a result, the dam today became a symbol of coordination and partnership between the two states, not just a building project. The repair and regular monitoring of this dam has now been jointly included by the Department of Disaster Management and the irrigation department. According to departmental sources, a plan is also prepared to strengthen this ring dam in the future so that no disaster can affect people’s lives in the future. This unique project has shown that timely plan and administrative will can find a solution to any disaster. Chhapra’s Ring Dam has now become a wall of expectation and safety of millions of people from two states, not just land and stones. Share this story -tags
