According to a TikTok mashup that has been used in more than 463k videos, you don’t just scream “What’s going on?” Linda Perry thinks the viral remix of 4 Non Blondes’s 1993 track “What’s Up?” with Nicki Minaj and 2 Chainz’s 2012 hit “Beez in the Trap” is “ridiculous in all the best ways,” she said in a statement to Rolling Stone. It’s the reason she joined TikTok this month. Multiple celebrities have gotten in on the trend of lip-syncing to the audio — including Sabrina Carpenter and SNL‘s Marcello Hernandez; Demi Lovato, Troye Sivan, Rachel Sennott, and Adéla; and even Malala Yousafzai and Jimmy Fallon. Perry has taken on both parts in TikToks with singer-songwriter Sophia Treadway, who she said convinced her to get in on the trend. “I mean, it’s pretty awesome, I must say,” Perry said. “It’s out of control.”
Audio creator DJ Auxlord, an Ohio-based college senior and classically trained pianist who wants to keep their name and gender private, told Rolling Stone that they are “gagged” by the reaction. Even Minaj has acknowledged the viral audio to the soundtrack carousel of photos. “Barbz, show love to the ppl doing the trend.
