Mumbai, September 16 (IANS). The Supreme Court has ordered the Maharashtra government and the State Electoral Commission to hold local elections by January 31, 2026. Leaders from various state political parties responded to this decision. The Supreme Court has made it clear that elections must be completed under the scheduled time limit. After this assignment, the state government began preparations for the election. The Supreme Court ruling welcomed the BJP leader and former Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, said: “The Supreme Court has given a clear order to the Maharashtra government and the State Election Commission to keep local elections by January 31, 2026. Our government is fully prepared for this direction.” He assured that the government would hold elections in time after the court’s instructions. At the same time, the Samajwadi party president and MLA Abu Azmi called this decision as historical. He said: “Local body elections have not been held over the past four years, which collapses the civil system. A lack of funds and corruption is increasing due to the random of the officials. This High Court decision is welcome. The government must hold elections in a transparent way before January 31.” Azmi also claimed that the court had earlier instructed to hold elections soon, but this could not happen due to manipulation and delay. I demand that the court’s instructions be followed immediately. Congress -LP Varsha Gaikwad also supported the Supreme Court decision. He said: “The corporation election has not been held in Mumbai for the past three-four years, which has influenced the administrative system. This Supreme Court decision will strengthen democracy. We welcome it and hope that elections will be held with full transparency.” Gaikwad, referring to the earlier court instructions, said that the public’s confidence was repeatedly reduced. This Supreme Court’s assignment is an important step over the prolonged local body election in Maharashtra. Let us tell you that the Supreme Court in respect of the local body election in Maharashtra made it clear that the date of election will not be allowed and that all procedures must be completed within the deadline for this. The State Election Commission was ordered to hand over the list to the general secretary within two weeks, so there is no delay in preparing for the election. -Ians Aks/DSC shares this story -tags
