Pleder to Starlink Bars Copy, Deck Triple of Indian Data Overseas: Mos Telecom

New -delhi, August 24 (PTI) The government has approved a permit to Starlink after the company agreed to comply with domestic laws, including safety conditions, which prevented it from copying and reflecting data abroad and reflecting the Indian user traffic on any system erected, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said. The minister told PTI that safety conditions were instructed satellite communications providers to draw up earth stations in India through which communication is sent from satellite to users. He said the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) granted a United License (UL) to Starlink Communications Private Limited Communications after the US firm agreed to the set terms and conditions of the UL, including safety conditions that apply to all SATCOM players. “The safety conditions, inter-alia, include the establishment of Earth Station Gateway (s) in India for providing satellite-based communications services with no user traffic that arose from or destined for India to be located by any port outside India, no copying and coverage of the Indian data is not to mirror, said the minister. He also said that the telecommunications department sought recommendations from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on terms and conditions of spectrum assignments, including spectrum prize, for the provision of satellite-based communications services, received on May 9. “Satellite -based communications services are an emerging area and as any new economic activity would do, it is also expected to work in the country as it is internal, the installation, the maintenance of employment in the country, as it involves the telecommunications network, including user terminal equipment,” the minister added.
