New -delhi, October 4 (IANS). Former Indian cricket bowler Atul Vasan welcomed the BCCI’s decision to appoint Shubman Gill as the captain of the ODI format in place of Rohit Sharma. Atul Vasan spoke to Ians and said, “I think it’s a very intelligent decision. Gill plays in three formats and performs very well. This decision reflects the maturity of the selectors.” Vasan said: “Rohit and Virat played big cricket and won the country, but I think the time has come for new players to take lead.” He said that giving the captaincy is to Gill like passing through the stick. Rohit and Virat are many adult players, and I think they also want them to get the chance to play openly without any pressure at this stage of their career. He achieved everything he could do in the game. Shubman Gill will also gain confidence because he has him in the team. A mixed reaction came to light from the cricket world when Rohit Sharma was removed from the captaincy. Harbhajan Singh declared the decision of the BCCI to remove Rohit from the ODI captaincy as disappointing. BCCI’s main choice Ajit Agarkar announced the Indian team for the upcoming ODI and T20 series against Australia. The ODI team captaincy was handed to Shubman Gill in place of Rohit Sharma. He is already captaining the test format. Shreyas Iyer was made the Vice Captain of the ODI team. Rohit Sharma was included in the team as a player. Senior player Virat Kohli is also in the team. The T20 team is ordered by Suryakumar Yadav. In the ODI series, the performance of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is monitored by selectors and fans. -Ians bag shares this story tags
