Malaysian police arrest 14 people from TPPO syndicate, 3 of them Indonesian citizens
Jakarta – The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) arrested 14 people from a human trafficking syndicate. Three of them are Indonesian citizens (WNI). “All those detained consist of 11 locals (eight men, three women) and three Indonesian women between the ages of 27 and 47 who have been arrested so far,” said Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director CP Datuk M Kumar S Muthuvelu, as reported by Antara as reported by BERNAMA, Friday (17/5/2020). The Malaysian police also rescued 49 Indonesian women who were victims of a human trafficking syndicate. They were rescued from 11 locations around Klang, Malaysia. Scroll TO CONTINUE CONTENT The victims were between the ages of 20–47 years old. They had been in Malaysia between 5 months and 13 years. During the operation, the police also seized R1.05 million in cash, 71 Indonesian passports and three vehicles. According to Kumar, the syndicate’s modus operandi is to deceive victims with job offers at refineries and private companies with salaries of RM 2,000-3,000. “The victims were locked in five houses provided by the syndicate and forced to work as domestic helpers, restaurant workers and salon workers,” he said.
