IMPHAL, OCTOBER 11 (IANS). The hilly Tamenglong district Manipur has been selected among 100 districts across the country for the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhana Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY). It is a central initiative aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring a better income from farmers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched two important schemes in the agricultural sector on Saturday with an interpretation of Rs 35.440 crore. After listening to the prime minister’s speech and launching two ambitious schemes in the agricultural sector, Vivek Kumar Dewangan, additional general secretary (agriculture), Manipur, said in Imhal that the Tamenglong district was selected under PMDDKY. “Tamenglong has a tremendous potential, but faces challenges such as low crop yields and water scarcity. PMDDKY will address these shortcomings and ensure a significant contribution of the state to national food security,” he said. Dewangan also encouraged local producers to acquire AGMark certification to improve the credibility of the product and market access. The Agriculture Division will share the Tamenglong model action plan as a reference to the best practice for other districts. Manipur general secretary Kumar Goyal said, while addressing the event, said: “We should be aimed at bringing Tamenglong among the top 10 districts in the national rankings.” Goyal requested various departments to work together under the leadership of the Agriculture Division to make Tamenglong one of the best agricultural districts in the country. The general secretary emphasized that PMDDKY will serve as a comprehensive convergence -based model for integrated development in the 100 least developed agricultural districts of India. Rather than creating new financing channels, the plan will prioritize the convergence of existing departmental resources to produce visible results. Goyal said Niti Aayog will rank selected districts based on performance indicators from time to time. –Is MS/DSC Share This Story Tags
