MBBS seats: MBBS seats have increased by 39% over the past four years, but despite these thousands of seats, every year remains vacant. This information was given in the Lok Sabha on August 1 based on the data shared by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Anupriya Patel, Minister of Public Servants for Health and Family Welfare, gave it in response to a Northern Telugu Desam Party (TDP) -LM Putta Mahesh Kumar in response to an unsettled question. The government said the increase in the number of medical colleges, the reform of infrastructure and the availability of faculty seats increased. In addition, ‘minimum standard requirement regulation, 2023’ was implemented by NMC, in which the basic facilities, faculty strengths and clinical materials associated with medical colleges were introduced. The government said the maximum seats of 12,325 MBBS are in Uttar Pradesh. The year 2021-21 had 7,428 seats. While session 2024-25 was the highest 12,325 seats. After this, the number belongs to Karnataka and Taminadu. Academic session 2024-25 had 12.194 seats in Karnataka and 12,000 seats in Tamil Nadu. The total number of total seats was 83,275 in 2020–21, which increased in 2024–25 to 1.15.900. However, the number of vacant seats was the highest in 2022-23.
