Mendhar, October 11 (IANS). An awareness program was organized on Saturday at Government Boys Higher Secondary School in the Mendhar border area regarding the “PM Surya Ghar -free electricity scheme” of the central government. The purpose of this program was to make citizens aware of the benefits of affordable and sustainable energy and to motivate them to adopt solar energy. Departmental officials said in the program that this scheme is very useful for rural and border areas. Below, suitable families can get free electricity by installing solar panels on the roof of their homes. It will not only reduce electricity bills, but will also contribute to the protection of the environment. According to the department’s data, about 50 registrations have been made in Mendhar so far and surrounding border areas and enthusiasm are seen among the people about the scheme. Officials say that the number of registrations will increase further in the coming days. Local population appreciated this government initiative, saying that the problem of power cuts and high accounts is common in the border areas. In such a situation, ‘Prime Minister Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme’ is a big step toward relief and confidence to them. At the end of the program, the school administration and officials called on the students and citizens to apply for the scheme soon and to make their homes “Sun Hous” by adopting solar energy. A department official told Ians that this scheme is the need of the hour in light of the increasing price and consumption of electricity. Earlier, in Poonch and Mendhar region, electricity was available 24 hours a day for just Rs 100, now due to prepaid smart meter technology, the tariff burden on consumers is increasing. In such a situation, ‘Prime Minister Surya Ghar -Free Electricity Scheme’ will be a blessing to the general public.
