Bryce Dallas Howard Says She'd Love To Direct More 'Star Wars' Projects – ryan
Star Wars fans don’t seem to be able to agree on a lot of things these days, but the one thing they can all come together on is that Bryce Dallas Howard is undoubtedly one of the best directors the franchise has ever seen. Her first crack at the galaxy far, far away came in The Mandalorian, where she helmed three episodes, one of which, “The Heiress,” sits as one of the highest rated of the series on IMDb. She’s returned to play in the Star Wars universe many times, and in a recent interview with MovieWeb revealed that she’s itching to do more.
Speaking with our own George Edelman, Howard spoke about her admiration of Star Wars, which began at a young age. When the time came for her to actually get to play in that world, it was a dream come true for her. “Honestly, I love Star Wars,” she told us. While there are currently no plans in place for her to direct anything else in the long-running franchise, she did say that if given the opportunity, she’d gladly put everything else aside to return. “I would love to do Star Wars for the rest of my life,” Howard said, adding:
“I love working with the people who collaborate in that space. We all care a lot. It taps into a child-like innocence that we all have, a joy that we all have. So getting to play in that sandbox is a huge honor. They know I will cancel anything and everything. I will be there in a heartbeat. I am available. And I also should say that I have really appreciated how much I have gotten invited back. I already feel so, so fortunate.”

Bryce Dallas Howard’s classic acting style brings grace and elegance back to the silver screen in these top performances.
In addition to her three Mandalorian episodes, Howard also directed an episode of The Book of Boba Fett that sits at #2 on IMDb’s Top-rated list, and her episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, “Zero Friends Again,” sits at #6. With the proven track record she has at delivering episodes fans love, it only makes sense to give her a feature film to take command of, but as of right now, that has yet to be confirmed, but we’re sure everyone would be thrilled with the news if it were to happen.
Bryce Dallas Howard Says ‘Star Wars’ Helps Her Connect to Other People
Switching gears a little, Howard’s latest project is the documentary film Pets, which explores the extraordinary relationship between animals and their people around the world. It’s a far cry from the Star Wars universe, but one that she can easily make a correlation with in terms of how fun they both were for her to direct.
“When you become an adult, it’s very easy to disconnect from fun, or fun can get a little hedonic and twisted, you know? And so, to get to do things like, to make a documentary about pets, to get to play with the Darksaber, you know what I mean? Like, these are just very fun, uplifting human experiences.”
Howard would continue to say that it’s things like Pets and Star Wars that allow her to feel connected to people on a deeper level, and, as such, it’s those types of projects she’d love to explore further in the future. “I think what’s more exciting to me about my love of Star Wars is the shared collective love and the ways in which I can feel connected to other people,” she said, adding:
“When we talk about Star Wars, or when we talk about Pets, that’s what I care about at the end of the day, connecting with other human beings. Life is tricky and complicated, and human beings are tricky and complicated, but also wonderful, and full of so much heart and so much humor. So just being in situations where that’s the ethos, that’s where I like to be. I always joke that I don’t really have any interest in making a drama.”
You can currently check out Howard’s work on Star Wars streaming now on Disney+, which is also home to her new documentary that premiered on April 11. Coincidentally, that date also happens to be Nation Pet Day in the United States, so it’s perfect viewing material to help celebrate the occasion.
