Mehbooba Mufti condemned the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk after Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, September 26 (IANS). Jammu and Kashmir’s chief minister, Omar Abdullah, on Friday described the arrest of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk as “very unhappy”. After this, the former chief minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti also condemned Wangchuk’s arrest. Mehbooba Mufti posted on the social media platform ‘X’, saying that the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk is very worrying. A person who always fights for peace, stability and truth is punished only for demanding promises. He said that there is in Leh in Leh on Friday and that the internet is closed. This is a bad memory of the long -standing events in Kashmir. To tell the truth to power in today’s India is like paying a heavy price. Otherwise, how can a person who continues to fight for peace and not -violence, how can he reach the jail? The Interior Ministry accused Sonam Wangchuk of quoting violence in Leh City of Ladakh, after which police arrested him on Friday afternoon. Sonam Wangchuk sat on a hunger strike on September 10 with the claim of state status, including in the sixth schedule and the protection of Ladakh’s delicate ecosystem. On September 24, a violent crowd burned a CRPF vehicle in LEH, with CRPF staff. In addition, he also burned the local office of the BJP and the office of the highest setting of Leh and also set fire to other vehicles. They also threw stones at the security forces. Sonam Wangchuk ended his hunger strike after violence began in Leh on September 24. Officials said security forces fired in self -defense, killed four protesters and injured 70 others. Officials imposed in Leh City, who continued for the third consecutive day on Friday. Curfew was also imposed in Kargil City following the order to close all education institutions in the Ladakh Union area Thursday night by September 28. The Ministry of Home Affairs also terminated the FCRA registration certificate of students’ educational and cultural movement of Ladakh (Sekmol), an organization of Sonam Wangchuk.
