Menko Zulhas set 7 regions to build PSEL, ready to convert garbage into electricity

Jakarta – The government has designated seven areas as locations for the construction of waste-to-electricity (PSEL) management facilities. The Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, said that this step proves that waste management can be an energy solution as well as opening up new economic opportunities in the region. “We proved today that we can get electricity from piles of rubbish, we can create jobs and we can grow the regional economy,” Zulhas told reporters on Friday (24/10/2025). Coordinating Minister Zulhas today led a limited coordination meeting to discuss PSEL with a number of related officials. The officials present include Minister of Environment Hanif Faisal Nurofiq, Head of the Presidential Personnel Office Muhammad Qodari, Head of the Anagata Nusantara Power Investment Management Agency Rosan Roeslani, Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti. The project is expected to be able to increase energy independence and maintain people’s health. The designated areas are as follows Bali Province, DIY Province, Greater Bogor, Greater Tangerang, Semarang City, Greater Bekasi and Greater Medan. Zulhas said that this green transformation will be carried out synergistically between government, business and society. “Trash becomes electricity, the economy becomes green.
