Unwavering bond between India and Sri Lanka: PM Modi to Bilateral Discussion with President Disanayake in Colombo

Colombo, April 5 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the president of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake for personal dedication to the relations on India-Sri Lanka. The two leaders further strengthened the relations in safety, trade, agriculture, housing, culture and other areas on Saturday during the bilateral discussion held at the president’s secretariat in Colombo. Prime Minister Modi wrote on X, “There was a comprehensive and useful talks with President Anura Kumara Disanayake in Colombo. He chose India for his first foreign journey after becoming president. Now I received the honor to be the first foreign leader he offered. Premier Modi said: “There has been a lot of progress since President Disanayake’s visit to India, especially in energy, solar, technology and other fields. In our conversation today, we discussed more ways to speed up security, trade, agriculture, housing, culture and other fields.” After bilateral discussions, several important agreements were signed, including defense collaboration and the development of Tinkomali as an energy center. Sri Lanka had earlier awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi the country’s highest honor ‘Mitra Vibhushan’. President Disanayake gave him this honor. It is the 22nd international honor that gave a foreign nation to Premier Modi. Premier Modi said: “It is a matter of pride today to honor the ‘Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushan’ on behalf of President Disanayake. This honor is not only my honor, but it is the honor of 140 Crore -Indians. It is an honor of historical relations and deep friendship between the people of India and Sri Lanka.” Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake said: “… I’m glad to declare that Sri Lankan government (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) has decided to provide the highest honor of Sri Lanka- Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushan … Premier Modi is fully entitled to this honor; this is our firm faith.” -Ians mk/ share this story tags
