Migration in search of job and better life is not a new thing for Bihar but this issue comes up in every election but after that it becomes secondary. While the problem of migration runs deep in the districts of North Bihar, its impact is relatively less visible in the Shahabad region. The latest figures released from the State Election Commission clearly show this disparity. Maximum 17 thousand trekkers are in Purnia district while around 16 thousand people in West Champaran are outside the state in search of livelihood. In contrast, the migration graph in the districts of the Shahabad region is much lower. In Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur and Rohtas districts, the number of trek voters was found to be only between 1400 and 4000. The assembly constituency with the least migration in the state is Barhara in Bhojpur district, from where only 66 people went out for work. The total number of trek voters in the state is 2,12,999. These figures have been compiled on the basis of door-to-door survey conducted by Booth Level Officer (BLO) during voter verification. It is clear from these figures that unemployment and migration continue to be a serious challenge in the districts of North Bihar, while the condition of farming and employment at the local level is relatively better in the districts of Shahabad. Due to festivals in the upcoming assembly elections, trek voters can influence the political equations of the state. Highest migration is from Purnia assembly and least from Badhara. According to the information of the assembly, the number of voters going from Purnia to other states is the highest. At the same time, in the Badhara assembly of Bhojpur, only 66 voters were found who had permanently gone to other states for work. The Badhara assembly constituency, situated on the banks of Ganga and Sun, is moreover in fertile soil and water wealth. This area, which has faced the tragedy of floods for two months, is known for the production of vegetables and maize and this creates job opportunities.
