The LH Minister will also review the environmental permit of PT KSM who runs Kawei Island. He revealed that there was an activity of PT KSM that is beyond the approval of the use of 5 hectares of forest areas (PPKH). “This is surely what we will do the first review, because earlier than the legal institution that it is on small islands, with all the potential we need to review the environmental agreement,” Hanif said. “Because there is an offense, there is, of course, the potential for environmental criminal law enforcement associated with the implementation of activities that exceed the limits given by the government in these activities,” Hanif added to the findings of PT KSM. The last, the review was also done by the Minister of LH to PT MRP who managed the island of Manyifun (21 ha) and Batang Pele Island (2,031,25 ha). He said that the approval of the environment would not be given to the PT. “But technical for environmental approval, it will probably be difficult to provide, because mining activities in the protected forest area are not allowed with an open pattern, while nickel mining is performed with an open pattern,” Hanif said. “The results of our field supervision also stopped that exploration activities were performed at the MRP to stop further activities. So because the activities did not affect too much, we just stop because there is no activity in this MRP activity (PT),” he added.
