Minister of Pak Defense expressed dissatisfaction with the presence of Afghan Minister Muttaki in Delhi, said: "He is an old loyalist from India ..."
Khawaja Asif, Minister of Defense in Pakistan, commented on the relationship between India and Afghanistan during an interview. He said: “Afghans have always been loyal to India and will remain loyal to Pakistan – nowadays, today and tomorrow.” His statement came at a time when the relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan recently became tense. During the Afghan Foreign Minister to India, he also criticized the previous Pakistani governments, saying that the decision to resolve Afghan refugees in the country was taken under pressure from America. At the time when the Pakistani defense minister delivered this statement, Foreign Minister Aamir Khan Muttaki was on an official visit to India. It is clear that Pakistan is not happy with the growing closeness between India and Afghanistan. Khawaja Asif ended a patience earlier. “Enough is enough, our patience has ended. Terrorism arising from Afghan land will no longer be tolerated,” he said. Asif claims that he and senior Pakistani officials visited Kabul about three years ago and requested the terrorists there to close their shelters, but the Afghan administration gave no concrete assurance. Due to dissatisfaction with the Taliban, he said: “We told the Afghan authorities that there are about 6,000 to 7,000 people living on your land which is a threat to Pakistan.” Asif also said that Kabul proposed a ‘financial settlement’ to keep these people there. The Minister of Defense said Pakistan sought a guarantee of the Afghan authorities that these people would not return to Pakistan, but that Afghanistan refused to give such insurance.
