Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources works with P2MI, migrant workers ready to be sent to the energy sector
Jakarta – The government reinforces cross -Ministerial synergy to open jobs and increase the protection of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI), especially in the energy and mineral sources sectors. This step was realized by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (sleeve) between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/10). The signing was performed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and the Minister of P2MI Mukhtarudin, as a form of collaboration to strengthen competency enhancement, occupational training and protection of migrant workers in the energy sector. This agreement also contains the exchange of data and information, the development of human resources, as well as the distribution of jobs abroad for Indonesian workers in the energy sector. Bahlil emphasized that this collaboration is a follow -up to the president’s direction, so that Indonesian migrant workers have high skills and competitiveness in the world market. He also said that this synergy was a real step in expanding jobs, at home as well as abroad. “This job is not only domestic, but we must also be able to send workers abroad with sufficient skills. If the skills are sufficient, the income will certainly be appreciated and the position will be good,” he explained. Bahlil added that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will support prospective tractors in the energy sector by using the training facilities it has. “We have training centers in the mining and oil and guest sectors, please use them, use the facilities. What is the purpose? To improve the skills of our prospective workers that we will send abroad later,” he said. Meanwhile, P2MI Minister Mukhtarudin emphasized that this collaboration is a synergy between ministries who have strong career institutions and technical training ability. “The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has seven occupations, namely five of the Human Resource Development Center (PPSDM) for oil and gas, geomination, electricity and EBTKE, appliances and underground mining training center, and two Polytechnics,” he said. Mukhtarudin is optimistic that this collaboration will strengthen the ecosystem to place migrant workers in the energy sector through training based on the needs of the industry. This memorandum of understanding has been valid for five years and will be followed by a collaboration agreement (PKS) between middle officials of each ministry no later than six months after the signing. All implementation costs are charged according to appropriate responsibilities and regulations. Through this step, the government hopes that Indonesian migrant workers in the energy sector can improve their power, gain maximum protection and contribute to strengthening national energy independence and security. Apart from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the P2MI ministry has also signed a similar memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Co -operatives and SMEs to expand the training and empowerment of workers in the industrial sector and small and medium businesses.
