Mizoram's Lengpui Airport runway was damaged, all flights canceled

Aizawl, October 3 (IANS). An airlines were suddenly disrupted at the only commercial airport Airport in Mizoram, when the runway was damaged while flying a Indigo plane. As a result, all flights of Kolkata and Delhi were canceled for the day. Officials informed that an indigo plane flying to Guwahati collided with the side of the runway, causing cracks in parts of the runway and structural damage. However, no passenger was harmed in the incident, but all incoming and outgoing flights were postponed immediately for security reasons. Located Langpui Airport, located about 32 km from the capital of Aizawl, is the only air connection medium of Mizoram. Flights work from here to Kolkata, Guwahati and Imhal. Airport officials said emergency repairs were started once the runway was damaged. A team of expert engineers has been deployed on the spot, which is busy with the recovery and security control of the runway. Repairs are expected to be completed by late Friday night and that Saturday will normally be started. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was also notified about the incident and will disclose the report after a technical inquiry into the runway. Passengers have had many problems due to this sudden incident. Many passengers have reached the airport for already discussed flights, either had to return or make alternative arrangements.
