Our goal is to restore peace and normality in Manipur: Conrad K. Sangama
IMPHAL, OCTOBER 9 (IANS). National President’s (NPP) national president and Meghalaya chief Conrad K. Sangma reached Manipur on Thursday. In the state, he said in the state’s capital Imhal that our main goal is to restore peace and normality in Manipur. During the visit, Sangma met the Governor of Manipur and died with Meitei and Naga Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and internally displaced persons (GOPs) in Impal. That evening he was also chairman of a meeting with NPP MLAs, government executive members and party officials. Sangma leaves for Dimapur in Nagaland tomorrow. During this time on his way, he will stop at Kangpokpi to meet the local CSO. The purpose of his visit is to contact different communities, understand the land reality and consider ways in which the party can contribute to peace efforts. Sangma said with the media that its goal was to meet various stakeholders, communities and people of Manipur and judge how the NPP can play a constructive role in ensuring lasting peace. He said although violence has decreased in recent months, continued dialogue and involvement are important to bring about full normality. Sangma emphasized that democracy is fundamental to India and the restoration of a democratically elected government is part of a return to normality. He further said that the NPP is strengthening its organization before the upcoming election, but the immediate priority is to bring back peace and stability in Manipur.
