Modernization of ITI in Uttarakhand, new model of skill development for youth - uttarakhand iti upgradation center and spoke model for youth skill development

Updated: Wed, 22 Oct 2025 09:19 (IST) Five Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) of Uttarakhand will be upgraded under the hub and spoke model. Under the central government plan, one ITI will be formed as a hub, while four will act as spokes. Its aim is to train the youth according to the current requirements of the industries. Central, state government and industry will participate in this scheme, which will provide better employment opportunities to the youth. Uttarakhand will benefit from the Centre’s National Scheme for Upgradation of Industrial Training Institute Ashok Kediyal, Jagran, Dehradun. Five Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) of Uttarakhand will be upgraded. Of these, one ITI will be developed as a hub and four others as spokes. The objective is to enable the youth to get employment by training them according to the current requirements of the industries. Remove Advertisement Just Read News The Central Government’s National Scheme for Industrial Training Institute Upgrading Scheme is going to provide a lot of benefit to the youth of the state in skill development. This scheme will not only increase employment opportunities but will also establish Uttarakhand as an emerging industrial training hub. This is Hub and Spoke Model Hub and Spoke Model is a systemic framework in which a central unit (Hub) is equipped with core resources, modern laboratories, expert trainers and advanced facilities. Other units (spokes) associated with it function as regional training centers. The hub contains specialized training and technical updates, which are delivered to the spokes, so that the quality is consistent across all training centers. This scheme was started to upgrade 1000 state ITIs across the country, the total financial size of which was kept at Rs 60 thousand crores. In this there will be participation of Rs. 30 thousand crores from the central government, Rs. 20 thousand crores from the state governments and Rs. 10 thousand crores from the industry across the country. Soon a meeting will be held in Uttarakhand to select those five ITIs which will come under this scheme. The industry will be owned and managed by the government. According to the Skill Development Department, this scheme will be launched soon and through it the youth will be provided vocational skills and made employable. The ownership of the selected ITI institutes will remain with the government, but their management will be in the hands of the industries. This will increase the quality of training and the curriculum can be adapted to the needs of the industry. ‘The advantage of this technical structure is that high-level technical knowledge and resources are concentrated in one place, improving overall efficiency and training levels. The same model will also be adopted in Uttarakhand through one hub and four speaking institutions, through which the youth of the state will be able to get high level technical training.
