Modi government increased 'Project Strike' in Bangladesh, Railway Projects worth Rs 5000 Crore
India has suspended the funding and construction work of approximately Rs 5,000 crore on major railway connection projects there, citing political turmoil and concerns about labor safety in Bangladesh. The purpose of these projects was to improve contact with seven northeastern states of India by Bangladesh. According to the Hindu system, these three suspended projects include the Akhaura-agarala border transition connectivity, Khulna-Mongla Port Railway and Dhaka-Tongi-Jaydebpur track extension expansion. In addition, the recording of five other proposed rail routes was also discontinued. Looking for Indian options, due to increasing unrest in Bangladesh and security uncertainties, Indian officials are now looking for alternative routes by neighboring countries such as Nepal and Bhutan. In addition, India also focuses on increasing its infrastructure, especially through a sensitive siliguri gait, which is also known as ‘chicken neck’. For this, Indian railways accelerate the efforts to double or fourfold existing rail lines in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which are the most important areas coming to the Siliguri. A senior railroad officer told the Hindu system that the survey was working for this. Meanwhile, India is also investigating the possibilities of new railroads by Nepal and Bhutan, for which the existing agreements such as the Indo-Nepal Rail Agreement and the geographical proximity of Bhutan are used from northeastern India. However, these options also bring some challenges. But it can reduce India’s dependence on Bangladesh for regional track connection, and it can lead to a much easier and safe gait.
