One of the discussions in this forum is the proposal to form a special institution or ministry that specifically deals with the climate crisis,” he said in a written statement, Saturday (18/10/2025). Eddy explained that the weather anomalies that have been occurring for almost a year are a clear sign of the threat of the climate crisis. “Before, several areas experienced extreme rain and flooding even though it was the dry season. Now, as we enter the rainy season, several areas are experiencing extreme heat. This is a clear indication of the climate crisis,” Eddy said. Apart from that, he also explained that various data show that climate anomalies have a serious impact on various groups of society, especially poor groups such as farmers and fishermen in rural and coastal areas. “Currently, farmers are struggling to determine the planting and harvesting seasons. The effect is that rice production has decreased both in quantity and quality. Likewise, fishermen have experienced a decrease in fish catches and also the potential for tidal flooding on the coast,” he said. He emphasized that the threat of the climate crisis does not only make the weather warmer, but the effects are felt ranging from social, health to economic problems. “It is not as simple as the weather getting warmer or the climate changing. Worse than that, the climate crisis can affect people’s economic income problems, health problems and even become a worsening social problem,” he said. Against this situation, Eddy urged the government to implement crisis management by making climate threats a national policy priority, in addition to using carbon activities produced from these activities. “Special institutions are needed that focus on dealing with and preventing the impact of the climate crisis, as well as managing the carbon economy resulting from the reduction of greenhouse gases, both from the natural and industrial sectors,” he said. He said that the 2025 ICCF Forum will set policies that can be implemented as solutions to prevent the impact of the climate crisis. “From ICCF 2025, we will prepare several recommendations for the government and related parties to prevent the impact of the climate crisis from spreading,” he concluded.
