Lucknow: Work will be done in 'Campaign Mode' to rejuvenation of small rivers

Lucknow, May 17 (IANS). The state government has taken a big step towards conservation and rejuvenation of Ganga and its tributaries in Uttar Pradesh. In the 15th meeting of the State Ganga Committee, a total of 18 projects were reviewed and recommended to issue a NO OBJECTIVE CERTIFICATE (NOC) to the National Clean Ganga Mission (NMCG). The meeting was held chaired by general secretary Manoj Kumar Singh. The general secretary ordered the Department of Urban Development and the State Clean Ganga Mission-Uttar Pradesh to provide the necessary documents to NMCG to soon begin the process of cleaning the Kukrail River and withdrawing silt. In addition, the District Ganga Committees were instructed to clean the unique waste and silt, focusing on small rivers of their respective areas. The general secretary said that rivers such as Gomti, Yamuna, Ami, Varuna, Kali -East and Harnandi will be preserved on priority base. He also made it clear that the State Clean Ganga mission must draw up a coordinated action plan for the rejuvenation of small rivers, which must be implemented in campaign mode and to ensure the participation of the local community. During this time, the establishment of a large cultural and spiritual center called ‘Ram Anubhav Kendra’ was also discussed near Guptar Ghat in Ayodhya on the banks of the Saryu/Ghaghra River. The committee decided to send a recommendation to NMCG under section 6 (3) of the Ganga Authority Order, 2016 to expand the project for the next seven years. This included projects from Prayagraj, Unnao, Ayodhya, Lucknow, Agra and Sitapur. Project Director, State Clean Ganga Mission Uttar Pradesh Dr. Raj Shekhar delivered a detailed presentation on all suggestions.
