Jakarta – Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Anwar Abbas, condemned a gay party at a hotel in the Ngagel area, Surabaya, East Java, in which 34 men were involved. The MUI believes that the actions performed by a number of men are cursed and angered by God. “The same-sex party that took place at a hotel in Surabaya, East Java, was truly embarrassing because what they did was clearly an act that was cursed and angry with God,” Anwar Abbas told reporters on Friday (24/10/2025). Because the man whose partner is not a man, but a woman,” he said. Anwar Abbas believes the same applies to women as well. Anwar Abbas believes that if this activity continues, it is not impossible that in the next 100 years there will be no human civilization. “If men marry men and women marry women, then it is certain that they will not bring children into the world. Even if everyone on this earth committed this deviant act, then in the next 100 years there will not be a single human child on the face of this earth,” said Anwar. “So what they did was an act that was anti-human and humanitarian. That’s why we give our appreciation to the police and the Surabaya Health Service for raiding this cursed sex party,” he continued. Separately, the chairman of the MUI for Fatwa, Asrorun Ni’am, is of the opinion that strict legal action is needed so that there would be a deterrent effect. Asrorun Ni’am hopes that the public will also be active in detecting deviant activities. “There must be strict and firm legal action so that there is a deterrent effect. As well as a deterrent mechanism so that it can serve as a warning to others who do not dare to commit such criminal acts,” said Ni’am. “The community must also take active prevention, they cannot be negligent, let alone permissive. Citizens take care of residents, they need early detection and protection. If there are indications of criminal acts, they must be prevented and reported immediately,” he added. According to Ni’am, there should be legal action against parties that facilitate same-sex parties, including business actors. Ni’am referred to homosexuality as an unacceptable act. “Legal action must be taken against the perpetrators and the parties involved, including business actors and those who facilitate them. Homosexual acts are criminal acts which are categorized as cursed in religion,” he added. It is known that the police named 34 men who were involved in a gay party at a hotel in the Ngagel area, Surabaya, as suspects. They have different roles, from financiers to administrators. “One consists of the funder, 1 main administrator, 7 assistant administrators and 25 participants so that a total of 34 were arrested,” said head of criminal investigation unit for the Surabaya police, AKBP Edy Herwiyanto, as reported by detikJatim, on Wednesday (22/10). Head of the Surabaya Health Office, Nanik Sukristina, said that 29 of the 34 men tested were HIV positive. Meanwhile, only five people tested negative. “Yes, that’s right (29 out of 34 men at a gay party in Surabaya were HIV-positive),” Nanik said when asked, reported Thursday (23/10) by detikJatim.
