Tyra Spaulding dies on 26: Chilling last post arouses alarm over mental health, 'I fight for my life'

The death of Tyra Spaulding, a former participant in the 2023 Miss Universe Jamaica competition, sent shockwaves through the Caribbean and beyond. According to Caribbean National Weekly, the 26-year-old accounting professional was found dead in her apartment. Police are treating the case as a possible suicide, although an official cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Tyra Spaulding’s last message on social media in her final online messages, Spaulding spoke openly about the fight against suicidal thoughts. “I’m fighting for my life … My mind is trying to kill me,” she wrote. “I get up every day, my mind tells me to jump off a building. It tells me to go an overdose on pills. It tells me to hang myself. ‘ She added that although she did not want to die, she had “no idea” where such ideas came from. The incident resulted in widespread raw among friends, colleagues and followers, many of whom saw her recent social media posts about her mental health struggle. Miss Universe Jamaica also remembered Tyra and wrote on Instagram: ‘Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of the beautiful Tyra Spaulding. She was a radiant soul and an incredible person. Her light, grace, beauty and kind spirit touched every life she encountered, leaving behind memories that would never fade (sic). ‘ They closed the post, she had a smile that illuminated every room, which brought warmth and joy to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
