Mumbai, September 16 (IANS). The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) announced temporary closure from Monorail Services from September 20 with the purpose of the modernization of Mumbai Monorail and preparing it for the future. This decision was made to make the monorail system strong, safe and more reliable so that passengers can get better service. For the first time in Mumbai Monorail, CBTC (communication -based train control) signal system native to Hyderabad is installed. 5 Electronic crashes are installed in 32 places, which are still being tested. 260 Wi-Fi access points, 500 RFID labels, 90 train tracking systems and many WATC units have already been set. The work of the signal on the side is complete. Now the process of integrated testing is going on. MMRDA bought 10 new state of the -the -rake in collaboration with ‘Medha’ and ‘SMH Rail’ under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, with 8 rakes already delivered. The 9th rake is ready for inspection and the 10th rake is in the final meeting. Monorail services are currently offered daily from 06:15 to 23:30. In such a situation, only 3.5 hours of night system is available for installation and testing. Each time the power trail is closed, discharged and restarted, which delays the velocity of the work. This temporary block has an uninterrupted installation and testing of the new rake and signal system. The total overall and back effect of the Old Rakes will be done so that they can return to service without any technical error. In the last few weeks, there have been barriers in services due to technical problems. To solve this, MMRDA has formed a special investigative committee and this temporary restriction is a good step in the same direction. Now all monorail services between Chembur and Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk will remain closed to further orders. Passengers were requested to plan their journey accordingly. Maharashtra Deputy Head Minister and MMRDA president Eknath Shinde said: “This block of monorail is an important step towards empowering the transport structure of Mumbai. New rake, advanced signal and recovery of old trains will provide safe and reliable service to passengers.” MMRDA’s Metropolitan Commissioner IAS Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee said: “This temporary block was taken under the entire scheme. It will make the monorail more competent, safe and prepared for the future than ever. We appreciate the patience of citizens and ensure that when the monorail will return, it will return with better service.” -Ians VKU/DSC
