Beware of midnight .. a study that reveals the 'best times' for mental health
A recent study showed that there is a clear pattern associated with mental health and a sense of psychological well -being during the day, as people generally wake up and feel better, while almost midnight feel the worst. The study published in the “The British Medical Association” magazine indicated that there is also a link after the day of the week and the separation of the year, as it plays a role in these fluctuations. The study indicated that there is particularly strong evidence of improving mental health and psychological well -being in the summer. In March 2020, the researchers conducted an analysis of data from the social study “Kofid-19” (Corona), and continued the participants until November 2021 to follow until March 2022. The study included about 50 thousand participants whose psychological health was measured and their well -being by accredited questionnaires. The researchers found a clear pattern in the daily fluctuations of mental health, as the participants reported the lowest levels in the symptoms of “depression, anxiety and a sense of loneliness”, in addition to the highest levels of “happiness, satisfaction with life and the value of life in the morning.” On the other hand, these indicators were in their worst cases at midnight. The results also showed that the day of the week also affected the psychological condition, as there were greater fluctuations in mental health during the weekend compared to working days. For example, the pace of happiness and satisfaction for life was on Monday and Friday compared to Sunday. However, the feelings of the unit did not differ significantly between the days of the week. Mental Health and Seasons of the Year. As for the seasons of the year, the study showed that summer was the best separation of mental health, as symptoms of depression, anxiety and a sense of loneliness decreased, and the rate of happiness and satisfaction with life increased compared to winter. However, the seasons did not affect the daily pattern of fluctuations in mental health. The study also showed a gradual improvement in mental health from 2020, which is the first year of the Corona Shura, until 2022. For example, the hormone “cortisol” reaches its peak immediately after waking up, taking off to the lowest level before the bed. The “cortisol” is the most important hormone associated with tension, secreted by the adrenal glands as it helps the body to cope with the stress -causing situations. The researchers also pointed out that the differences between the days of the week and the weekend can be linked to contextual factors such as daily life activities, which differ between working days and holidays. The study concluded that these results have important implications for providing health services and conducting clinical assessments, as it can help guide the timing of psychological support and health resources, especially in times when mental health is at the lowest level, such as midnight and mid -week and winter.
