This year, the 5192nd birth anniversary of Lord Krishna is celebrated with great pomp in the Shrinathji temple of Nathdwara, the headquarters of the Pushtimarg community in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. On the occasion of Janmashtami, Nathdwara is completely painted in the colors of Krishna. The whole city is decorated with lights and flowers. Like every year, this year too 21 gun salute and Nand Mahotsav will be the major attractions. Special program Janmashtami is celebrated in Shrinathji Temple under the supervision of Crown Prince Vishal Bawa of Shrinathji Temple. According to Pushtimarg tradition, Janmashtami has special significance here because Shrinathji is in his child form. Programs start early in the morning on the day of Janmashtami. Before that, the tradition of coloring the clothes of Krishna was also complete. On the fifth day from Janmashtami, after offering Gopivallabh, Vaishnav people gather to sing congratulatory songs. In which Prince Vishal Bawa along with his family, head of the family and Shriji’s tailor follow the tradition of coloring Shrinathji and Shri Navneet Priyaji’s clothes by wearing saffron turban. A 21-gun salute is fired. On this day, during Mangala Darshan, Thakurji is given a Panchamrit bath of milk, curd, ghee, sugar and honey. It is called Panchamrit bath. They are then adorned with bright saffron robes and peacock feather candelabra. The devotees are then treated to their Shringaar Darshan, during which the temple priest reads the horoscope of the deity. After this, a special Mahabhog (offering of food) is offered to the Lord, which is called Rajbhog. After this, Janam Darshan remains open from 9 to 11 pm, where devotees can have darshan of their Lord. When the clock strikes 12 and Krishna is born, the news of Krishna’s birth is heralded throughout Nathdwara with the roar of 21 cannons. The joy of the festival of Janmashtami reaches its peak with this cannon salute. The excitement of Nand Mahotsav: Nand Mahotsav is celebrated here on the next day of Janmashtami. On this day, the sixth puja of Lord Shreeji and Ladle Lal Prabhu is performed, the purpose of which is to protect little Krishna from the evil eye. After the sixth puja, Shri Laadle Lal Navneet Priya ji is swung in a golden swing. During this, the head priest of the temple dances as Nand Baba and Yashoda.
