National Herald case: Trial adjourned until November 29 in Rouselaan Court

New Delhi, October 18 (IANS). The hearing on Subramanian Swamy’s petition in the corruption case related to National Herald has been adjourned in Delhi’s Rouselaan court. The court fixed November 29 for hearing in the case. At present this complaint of Swamy is in the trial stage. In his petition, he claimed that the National Herald Company worth Rs 2000 crore was bought for only Rs 50 lakh. In this case, a criminal case is pending against Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders of the Congress Party, including Rahul Gandhi. However, both the leaders got bail from the lower court in this case. It is worth noting that the Delhi High Court is currently in abeyance on this matter, but recently Subramanian demanded Swamy to withdraw his appeal. Patiala House Court had earlier issued summons to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others. Later, the case was transferred to the special MP-MLA court in Rouselaan, where it is currently at the stage of evidence. Money laundering case (ED case) related to this case is also pending, in which consideration is going on to issue summons to the proposed accused. The matter is listed for hearing on October 25. Let us tell you that the National Herald newspaper was founded in 1938 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL). The newspaper was closed in 2008 due to financial crisis, after which the controversy began. In the year 2010, a company called ‘Young India Private Limited’ was established, in which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have 38-38 percent stake. The enforcement directorate (ED) investigation revealed that Young Indian acquired assets worth around Rs 2,000 crore from AJL for Rs 50 lakh, while their market value was much higher. ED swung into action in November 2023 and seized immovable property worth around Rs 661 crore and AJL shares worth Rs 90.2 crore, which were considered proceeds of crime. –IANS DCH/PSK Share this story Tags
