Muscat, October 15 (IANS). Nepal and Oman have secured their places in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 from the Asia/East Asia Pacific Qualifiers. With the UAE’s victory over Samoa, Nepal and Oman’s place in the World Cup was assured. Nepal, unbeaten in the group stage, took two points in the Super Six, winning two last-ball thrillers against the UAE and Qatar. A day later, Rohit Paudel’s team produced another brilliant performance. Defending 148 runs, Nepal looked to be out of the contest as Qatar reached 97/1 in 12 overs, but Sandeep Lamichhane’s brilliant 5-18 turned the tables. The leg-spinner’s crisp bowling defeated Qatar by 10 runs, giving Nepal a memorable win and qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Oman replicated Nepal’s consistency and also secured two points in the Super Six stage. They comfortably defended 172 against Qatar and then won a close game against the UAE. Meanwhile, the UAE remain in contention for the final qualification spot after an impressive win over Samoa, which will help them set up a crucial showdown against Japan on 16 October. The Emirati team is currently in third place, while Qatar still has a chance. It needs to beat Samoa, hope for other results and overtake the competition on net run rate. Despite defeating Papua New Guinea in the group stage, Samoa were eliminated after consecutive defeats. –IANS PAK Share this story Tags
