Nepal Violence: Air India, Indigo to operate additional flights; Airlines advised to keep rates within reasonable levels

Nepal Protests: India’s Civil Aviation Ministry is bringing back stranded Indians in Nepal by deploying additional flights to Kathmandu in collaboration with Air India and Indigo, Union Minister K Rammohan Naidu said on Wednesday. The Nepal Gen Z protests on Monday and Tuesday caused the closure of Kathmandu Airport, which reopened on Wednesday, September 10, after Nepal army imposed restrictions and a subsequent lead to contain violence. “As a result of the closure of the Nepal airport, many passengers could not return home from Kathmandu,” Naidu said in a position on X. The Minister of Civil Aviation said that the center coordinated with Air India and Indigo to bring back stranded Indians in Nepal. “With the opening of the airport operation in Kathmandu, @moca_goi, in collaboration with Air India & Indigo, arranged additional flights tonight and the next few days, along with scheduled services resumed tomorrow,” Naidu said. He said the airlines were advised to keep their prices reasonable at this time. “We are committed to supporting our passengers while securing their safe journey during this time,” Naidu said. Air India announces additional flights that respond to the government’s measures, Air India said on Wednesday that they would operate additional flights to Kathmandu to bring back stranded Indians in Nepal. “Air India is operating special flights today and tomorrow from Delhi to Kathmandu and back to help passengers stranded because of the recent development in Nepal. Our scheduled operations will also resume tomorrow,” it states. Nepal Protests: Hundreds of Indians stranded in Nepal have seen the Nepal protests, the Tribhuvan International Airport amid violence while protesters drafted the government’s most important government buildings amid deaths of 19 youths due to brutal police. As a result, hundreds of Indians were left in Nepal stranded. India’s Foreign Ministry (MEA) has issued a travel advice for its citizens in light of the prevailing situation in Nepal. In his statement, the MEA called on Indians to avoid non-essential journey to Nepal until the situation stabilized. Those already in the country were advised to stay indoors, avoid going out on the street and following all local security advice issued by the Nepalese authorities and the embassy of India in Kathmandu. The ministry also shared emergency contact numbers for help. At least 200 people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were stranded in Nepal, and 110 Indian tourists from Thane lost.
