Nigerian immigration -operative arrest 51 illegal migrants from Mali in Nyanya, Abuja

The Nigerian Immigration Service (niche) said its officers arrested 51 illegal migrants of Mali in New Nyanya, Karu local government area in the state of Nazarawa. The niche announced this in a statement issued by its liaison officer, Acinlabi, on Wednesday. According to the statement, the arrests took place on Monday, March 31, 2025 after credible intelligence. A distribution of the arrested migrants revealed that 11 were female, while 40 were male, with ages between 16 and 19 years. Akinlabi said provisional investigations revealed that the arrested illegal migrants were possibly the victims of human trafficking in persons (TIP) and the smuggling of migrants (sum), as found without valid travel documents or residence permits. “Preliminary investigations conducted by the service indicate that the migrants may have been the victim of human trafficking in persons (tip) and smugglers of migrants (sum), as found without valid travel documents or residence permits,” Akinlabi said. The statement further noted that the detained individuals were in custody of the service for further profiling and investigation. “The arrested individuals were supervised by the service for further profiling and investigated to determine the circumstances of their migration and any possible involvement of human trafficking or smuggling networks or syndicates,” Akinlabi added. Akinlabi further stated that the niche will determine the circumstances surrounding their migration and expose any possible involvement of human trafficking or smuggling syndicates. The statement added: “Nigeria’s immigration service remains committed to ensuring that the borders of Nigeria are protected from illegal migration, while the rights of migrants that meet the country’s immigration laws maintain.” The service still works closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders to work effectively in persons. “The niche ensures the general public of its unwavering commitment to national security and migration management, while the citizens are encouraged to report suspicious migration activities to the nearest niche orders and formations.”
