A Nigerian soldier identified as Sudik was arrested for cutting off the fingers of a shoe seller, Abdulrahman Salisu, to a payment dispute on Sallah Day. It was collected that the violent attack took place at Abdulrahman’s shop near Jolly Bread, near the Obasanjo shopping complex in Minna, Niger state. According to the victim, the soldier approached his store to buy a pair of shoes and claimed to have paid via bank transfer. However, Abdulrahman insisted that he had not yet received a payment warning. The disagreement increased rapidly when Sudik, in an anger, pulled a cutting glass and swung it on Abdulrahman’s head and demanded his money. In a desperate attempt to protect himself, Abdulrahman raised his left hand, which led three of his fingers to break. As he screamed for help, Sudik and two accomplices who accompanied him fled on the scene. However, the incident was reported to the police immediately, and security authorities have since arrested Sudik. Meanwhile, Abdulrahman is currently receiving medical treatment at the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna. The attack increased the safety issues among traders and shop owners in the area, including those at Mobil Roundabout, Jolly Bread and the Obasanjo shopping center. Many people have lamented the increasing incidents of above meter and armed robbery, which endangered their businesses. Jolly Bread, a major newspaper distribution center in Minna, was also influenced by these security challenges, with sales representatives, agents and newspaper sellers expressing fear of attacks by suspected criminals working at all hours. Traders have called on the Niger State Government to strengthen the safety efforts to combat rising threats, saying that they live in constant fear while performing their daily activities.
