Night missile system will be procured for the army, surface guns for the navy and long-range targeting systems for the air force. The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) on Friday approved proposals for the purchase of military equipment worth Rs 79,000 crore to increase the firepower of the three services. In this there is a proposal to have Nag Missile System, Mobility Vehicle for the Army and Surface Gun, Rapid Gun and Advanced Lightweight Torpedo, etc. to purchase for the navy. While increasing the operational capability of the air force, there is a proposal to purchase equipment that increases the efficiency of navigation and take-off and landing. Among the military procurement proposals approved by the Defense Acquisition Council, the proposal for procurement of Nag Missile System (Tracked) MK-III (NAMIS), Ground Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES) and High Mobility Vehicles (HMV) with material handling crane for the army is important. Indian Army’s capability will increase: According to the Ministry of Defence, the purchase of NAMIS (Tracked) will increase the Indian Army’s ability to eliminate enemy combat vehicles, bunkers and other regional strongholds. While GBMES will continuously provide electronic intelligence information on enemy intelligence equipment. The Heavy Mobility Vehicles will add to the existing capability to provide rapid delivery of logistical support to armies across a variety of difficult geographies. The procurement proposals approved by the DAC for the Navy include the proposal for procurement of Landing Platform Docks (LPD), 30 mm Naval Surface Gun (NSG), Advanced Light Weight Torpedo (ALWT), Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Tracking System and Smart Ammunition for 76 mm Super Rapid Gun Mount. The acquisition of LPDs will help the Navy conduct joint operations on land and air with the Army and Air Force. The Navy’s ability to target submarines will increase. The integrated maritime capability provided by LPD will also assist the Indian Navy in peacekeeping operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations etc. The induction of ALWT, indigenously developed by DRDO’s Naval Science and Technology Laboratory, will enhance the Navy’s ability to target conventional, nuclear and small submarines. The acquisition of 30 mm NSG will enhance the capability of the Navy and the Indian Coast Guard to conduct low-intensity maritime and anti-piracy operations. According to the Ministry of Defence, these procurement proposals include the proposal for the procurement of Allied Long Range Target Destroyer System (CLRTS/DS) along with other equipment for the Air Force. The CLRTS will enhance the Air Force’s ability to perform automated takeoff, landing, navigation, surveillance and payload delivery in the mission area. Following this approval from DAC, the Defense Affairs Committee of the Cabinet will now give its final approval on these procurement proposals.
