Jubilee Special: Maqbol Fida Hussain was the wizard of unparalleled colors of Indian art

New -Delhi, September 16 (IANS). Born in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, Hussain Indian painting gave a new identity on the global stage with his unique style of art. His art was a wonderful confluence of Indian culture, history and modernity, which still inspires art lovers. Hussain is also known as ‘MF Hussain’. He was born on September 17, 1915. He started his career with the painting and theater posters in Mumbai. In the 1940s, he became part of the Progressive Artists Group, which started modernity in Indian art. The portrayal of Indian myths, rural life and historical events can be seen prominently in his paintings. His famous series includes ‘Mother India’, ‘Mahabharata’ and ‘Ramayana’, which reflect his deep attachment to Indian culture. Hussain’s art was not limited to colors and cloth. He also contributed to film production, including films such as ‘Through the Eyes of a Painter’ and ‘Gaj Gamini’. Repeated portrayal of horses, women and mythical characters in his painting became a specific part of his style. MF Hussain has given Indian art a global identity. His works made records of sales on global arts forums such as New York, London and Dubai. However, Hussain’s life was also surrounded by controversies. He was particularly accused of injuring religious feelings about the portrayal of Hindu gods. As a result, he had to leave India and accept the citizenship of Qatar in 2006. He died in London in 2011, but his art is still alive. Hussain was awarded with Honors such as Padma Shri (1955), Padma Bhushan (1973) and Padma Vibhushan (1991). A special exhibition is organized every year at his birthday, where a few rare paintings and sketches of Hussain are displayed.
