Kohima, October 12 (IANS). Acting Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Nagaland, emphasized the role of sports in the promotion of peace on Sunday. He said: “Sport breaks down barriers, promotes understanding and teaches us to resolve differences through respect rather than conflict.” The Governor addressed the closing ceremony of the eighth edition of the Niyathu Sports Festival 2025 and expressed his gratitude that Nagaland has a peaceful and stable environment, giving its youth the opportunity to thrive, dream and compete freely. The program was attended by the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio, general official of 3 corps, Lieutenant-General as Pendharkar and other dignitaries were present. Bhalla, who also holds the charge of Governor of Manipur and additional governor of Nagaland, said the Niyathu Sports Festival is not only a competition, but a celebration of youth, health and togetherness. He appreciated the Niyathu group and the Niyathu Privilege Club for their unwavering commitment in promoting sports through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which has now become one of the most expected sports events of Nagaland. The Governor said that the Niyathu Sports Festival over the years has transformed Dimapur into a vibrant meeting place of athletic talent, attracting participants from all over India. He expressed happiness that this year was the highest participation ever, with athletes from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Goa, Western Bay, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam and many other states participating. He said: “Your presence here reminds us that sports are surpassing boundaries. It unites people from different regions, cultures and languages ​​in the common spirit of discipline, friendship and fair play.” The governor reflected on the deeper meaning of this celebration and said: “It’s not just about medals or victories, but about promoting a healthy lifestyle, nurturing young talents and promoting a feeling of belonging.”
