A tragic example of administrative neglect, more than 25 schoolchildren from Banni and Bhadra towns in Bharmour in the Chamba district, cross Banni Mata Nala by risking their lives every day on the way to Mandha Senior Secondary School. Due to a lack of bridge over the drain, students, locals and even dedicated who visit the ancient Banni Mata Temple are forced to go through this dangerous water source often wear parents or rural children on their backs during the fast flow. The situation gets worse during the monsoon. After the drainage water level suddenly rose on Wednesday, residents had to carry the schoolchildren on their backs to take their safe schools. Residents say that even after light rains, the water level of the drain increases significantly, causing it to become a threat, not only for children, but also for the drivers who go through the risky road. Local resident Manohar Lal said: “The government is talking about development in every area, but reality is revealed in places where a basic bridge is not built, despite repeated claims.” Another resident of Kishan Chand, another resident, said that even before many children and even large strong water drives survived due to sliding or floating on the rocks. About 35 km from Bharmour’s headquarters, this drain has near the prestigious Banni Mata temple religious significance and regular dedicated coming here. Nevertheless, the bridge was built because of the importance of the temple or the safety of schoolchildren. Bharmour Mla Dr. Janak Raj also expressed his disappointment over the lack of progress. He said: “For the past two years I have been trying to build the bridge over the Banni drain. Although tenders have been assigned, the Department of Public Works and the Local Administration give the lack of money for the lack of money.” He further said that new efforts at the government and departmental level will be made to begin the construction as soon as possible. Local villagers once again called on the officials to build the bridge immediately, emphasizing that this delay is not only inconvenience, but it is a threat to everyday life. Until then, the Banni Mata Nallah will remain a dangerous ritual for schoolchildren, their families and others dependent on this route. Share this story -tags
