Noah Cyrus Says Mom Tish Influenced Her Desire to Get Married ‘Early’ – ryan

Mother-daughter duo Tish Cyrus and Noah Cyrus recently reunited to discuss marriage.

Amid their rumored family drama, Noah, 25, joined her mother, 57, on the Thursday, April 17, episode of Tish’s Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast to talk about tying the knot. Noah, who announced her engagement to fashion designer Pinkus in June 2023, said that Tish largely influenced her desire to get married “early.”

“I always wanted to get married. Like, every relationship I’ve had, I’ve thought about marrying them,” Noah said. “My explanation was always, ‘Well, my mom had her first kid by the time she was 21.’ I don’t think of that as, like, an ‘oopsie age.’ I think of that as, ‘Well, I’ve been working since I was 15. Why couldn’t I have a child when I’m in my early 20s or why couldn’t I get married in my early 20s?’ That was something I really wanted.”

Tish married ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus in 1993. They announced their divorce in 2022.

“It is after 30 years, five amazing children and a lifetime of memories, we have decided to go our separate ways — not with sadness, but with love in our hearts,” read a joint statement issued by the couple via a family representative exclusively to PEOPLE at the time of their separation. “We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of and it is now time to create our own paths.”

In addition to Noah, the former couple share daughter Miley, 32, and son Braison, 30. Billy Ray, 63, also adopted Tish’s two eldest kids, Brandi and Trace, from a past relationship. Billy Ray also has son Christopher Cody, 33, from a previous relationship.

“My life changed so much,” Tish recalled on the podcast. “I did nothing but (raise) kids for my entire life. It was so crazy, and then to have you guys all out of the house and you’re so independent now. It’s just so weird.”

Because “the only thing (she) ever did was be a mom,” Tish is now trying to “figure out who (she is) and what (her) dreams are” outside of motherhood.

“(I have to figure out) what I’m going to do with life,” Tish said.

Two years ago, in August 2023, Tish married Dominic Purcell, 55. In March 2024, a source told PEOPLE Noah “was offended” by Tish’s marriage to Purcell — which she was not present for — because the singer-songwriter and the actor were previously seeing each other in a “friends with benefits way.”

“They stopped seeing each other, and then Tish started something up,” the source said. “Tish knew he had been seeing Noah.”

Per the source, though Noah and Purcell had stopped seeing each other when his relationship with Tish started, “Tish never gave Noah the chance to talk about all of this before they got married.”

Meanwhile, another source told PEOPLE in February 2024 that Noah was sticking by her father Billy Ray’s side amid their divorce.

“Noah is very loyal to Billy Ray,” the source said. “She and Billy Ray have always had a really close relationship.”

Now, it appears as though Noah and Tish have squashed any rift they may have had. On the podcast, Noah spoke about still needing her “mommy so bad” and said she’s able to “always call her through anything.”

The July singer also gushed about Tish’s motherly relationship with Pinkus.

“It’s really cute because my fiancé and my mom are really close,” Noah shared. “I love that so much because my past boyfriends, my mom has not been close with. Well, my first one you tried to be and then the rest were just, like, (a) plane crash. We got through it, and now I’m with a nice, little German man.”
