Imphal, October 19 (IANS). Days ahead of NSCN-IM General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah’s much-awaited Manipur visit, a Naga organization on Sunday urged him to apologize to the Naga community for his past mistakes during his October 22 homecoming. Preparations were underway for the proposed visit of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) to his birthplace MuMivapurh faction, his birthplace. Ukhrul district for the first time in 50 years. The 90-year-old NSCN-IM leader is expected to visit his native town Somdal, located in Tangkhul, Naga-dominated Ukhrul district, on October 22. Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) said in a statement that Muivah will visit his native town of Somdal in Ukhrul district empty-handed, 55 years after he released Naga. Louis Gangmei, Information and Publicity Secretary of the ZUF, said in a statement: “There was no reason to glorify a man who ‘missed’ the Nagas on every front. Muivah was personally responsible for targeting many individuals. He ordered the brutal killings of many prominent leaders in the name of Naga nationalism and sovereignty. Gee, and all these sacrifices were made by ordinary Nagas made.” ZUF said common people in the Naga-dominated areas of Manipur are facing hardship as Muivah and his relatives “run from one international destination to another.” The organization said the NSCN (IM) leader should “unconditionally apologize to the Nagas for all the mistakes committed over the years.” The Naga organization said reports indicate that the NSCN (IM) has already set up camps in Zeliangrong areas to take control of the area, carry out extortion and levy illegal taxes on the National Highway and Trans-Asian Railway. —IANS SCH Share this story Tags
