The AI-based system will detect potholes and cracks by analyzing images and videos of the roads. This will help NHAI to take immediate action and improve the quality of roads thereby making travel safer. Now NHAI will guard the roads with the help of AI (file photo) Digital Desk, New Delhi. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a new technology initiative for road maintenance. Under this, Network Survey Vehicles (NSV) will be deployed by NHAI in 23 states. These high-tech survey vehicles will collect road conditions and road-related data on approximately 20,933 km of National Highway roads. Remove Ads Read Only News To make traveling on national highways easier, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has actually announced a new technological initiative. These NSV vehicles will record road surface quality, wear, potholes and other technical imperfections. Based on this data, potholes and defects on the road will be identified. So that repairs and improvements can be made in a timely manner. The vehicles will be high-tech. According to the information, these NSV vehicles will be equipped with high-tech features. With the help of 3D laser system, 360 degree cameras and GPS technology installed in these vehicles, every small defect on the road like cracks, potholes or spots will be easily recorded without any human intervention. This data will be directly uploaded to the AI-based data lake portal of NHAI. After this, a team of experts will examine it. Based on this information, necessary steps will be taken immediately for road repair and maintenance. This will make the journey of passengers convenient and easy. The survey will be done every 6 months. The data collected at regular intervals as per the Government of India guidelines will be preserved in the road asset management system in prescribed formats for future technical purposes. Data will be collected prior to commencement of work and at regular intervals of six months thereafter for all 2/4/6 and 8 lane projects along NSV. (With inputs from news agency PTI)
