Nuapada by-election: Odisha DGP reviews preparations, emphasizes fair elections

Bhubaneswar, October 21 (IANS). Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Tuesday stressed on holding peaceful, transparent, free and fair by-elections for Nuapada assembly constituency. During a high-level meeting of senior police officers in Cuttack, DGP Khurania reviewed the security preparations for the Nuapada by-election and stressed the need to ensure its free and fair conduct. He directed the officials to follow the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines for adherence to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and make adequate security arrangements for VIPs and VVIPs during the by-elections. The DGP also ordered that preventive action under sections 110 and 107 of CrPC should be intensified, including the arrest of suspicious persons, the crackdown on illegal cash transactions, seizure of illegal arms and liquor and the execution of all pending non-bailable warrants to ensure strict law and order. During the meeting, it was also emphasized that mobile patrol and aircrew operations should be strengthened. Check posts must also be set up at all entry points to the constituency for thorough checking of suspicious persons and vehicles. Important information related to the by-elections was shared in the high-level meeting. Lane Deputy Inspectors General and District Superintendents of Police have been advised to be strictly vigilant about the law and order situation in their respective districts. To prevent possible Maoist activities during the by-elections, ADGP (Operations) Sanjeev Panda said that search operations and anti-Maoist operations will be intensified in Maoist-affected areas of the district. He said that all related operational plans have been finalised. For the smooth conduct of elections, 14 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, five platoons of Odisha State Armed Police and Reserve Police Force, 35 mobile patrol parties, 18 flying teams, 18 static surveillance teams, along with district police officers and staff, will be deployed in Nuapada for the by-election. —IANS PSK Share this story Tags
