ODGJ man recklessly jumps into sea in Seribu Islands, police help with evacuation

Jakarta – Seribu Islands Police personnel rescued a man with the initials R who recklessly jumped into the sea at Kelapa Island Pier, Seribu Islands, North Jakarta. Apparently, R was suspected of being a person with mental disorders (PDG). “The victim was rescued by members of the North Thousand Islands Police who received the report and was evacuated and returned to his family,” Thousand Islands Police Chief AKBP Arga Dija Putra reported in Jakarta on Monday (20/10/2025) by Antara. Arga explained that the incident started with R immediately throwing himself into the sea at the dock where the ship was anchored. However, when people shouted at him, R would not stand up. Scroll TO CONTINUE “At the beginning of the incident, residents were reprimanded, but the victim did not want to go up to the pier,” he said. Then around 13.30 WIB, residents came to the North Seribu Islands Police to inform them that R was suspected of being an ODGJ to throw himself into the sea. Officers immediately came to the location which was a dangerous area. “We immediately docked at the dock where the ship was moored to check the location,” said Arga. When they arrived at the scene, the police found R still in the sea. The police then helped with the evacuation. After being successfully evacuated, R was then taken back to his home. Arga appealed to the family to carry out strict supervision of R. He was grateful that the victim could be evacuated safely immediately. “We also continue to appeal to residents to report immediately if there is a similar incident,” he added. (fas/eva)
