Odisha: Minor accuses relatives of gang-rape in Puri, two arrested
Bhubaneswar, October 25 (IANS). A shocking incident came to light on October 22 in Chandanpur area of Puri district of Odisha. A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by some of her distant relatives. This gruesome incident came to light when the minor victim filed a complaint in this regard at the Chandanpur police station on Friday. A local police official told IANS that the minor filed a complaint at the police station on Friday that her cousin and brother raped her on October 22 when she was sleeping with her younger sister at home. According to the complaint, the victim’s family went to watch the immersion procession of the idols of Goddess Kali. When the family members returned home, the victim narrated her ordeal to her mother. Local people say that due to pressure from the villagers, the family was initially reluctant to file the complaint, but on Friday, the victim along with her mother reached the police station and lodged a complaint against the accused. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested both the accused. Both are daily wage labourers, who are being questioned in the police station. Meanwhile, the main opposition party Biju Janata Dal strongly condemned this horrific incident on Friday. The party claimed in a press release that this shocking crime once again exposes the complete failure of law and order in Odisha. BJD has repeatedly reiterated that the law enforcement machinery in the state has failed miserably. The fear of the law has ended, while criminals now operate without fear. BJD also said that in the last 16 months alone, more than 5,000 women have been raped in Odisha, highlighting the deteriorating condition of women under the current government in Odisha. –IANS MS/DKP Share this story Tags
