Onetime writer for FXS the bear that NYC train collected in the shackles
A one -time writer for FX’s hit program “The Bear” was taken from a shuttle train in New York in a dispute in a dispute about how he sat – an incident he recorded in a video shared on social media. Alex O’Keefe, who is black, said in an Instagram post that he was on his way to Connecticut on a Metro North train on Thursday when he was removed by police after a white woman complained to a conductor about the way he sat. In response to questions about O’Keefe’s video, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the safety video showed that he was sitting over an adjoining seat with both legs – a violation of the railway line’s rules. The MTA said a conductor called the police after the passenger refused to move his legs. Police briefly held the train at a station in the Bronx at about 10:30. The MTA said officers handcuffed O’Keefe after refusing to go out the train. O’Keefe recorded part of the interaction. “You’re going to arrest the one black guy on the train, because this white woman said she didn’t say about the way I was sitting on the train,” O’Keefe told officers in the video as he pointed to the woman. He then says three times that he did nothing illegal. An officer then starts to put handcuffs on O’Keefe and another tells him to stop resisting. “Resistance to what? Resistance to what? What are you trying to arrest me for? ‘ he says. The video ends shortly after. O’Keefe posted another video taken by a bystander showing that he was facing a wall in the shackles on the train platform while officers questioned him. The officers gave O’Keefe a subpoena in which he was accused of disorderly behavior, and then allowed him to climb to another train to his destination, the MTA said. MTA chairman Janno Lieber was asked on Monday about the incident at a news conference on another topic. He said it was a simple case of a passenger who violated the rules by placing his legs on a seat. “The police have to get involved because someone doesn’t take his feet off the seat?” Lieber said and later added: “Just take your feet off the seat. It’s so simple. And respect other passengers. But we’ll watch the video and handle all the dramas that come from these simple interactions these days.” O’Keefe, 31, won a 2023 Writers Guild Award with other writers, as “The Bear” was named the best comedy series. O’Keefe told The Associated Press on Monday that he was working and that he had to conduct a maintenance request by his legal team. He added that he was “careful about being the center of a cultural war in this political climate.”
