“Kaost” among the 100 best universities globally in classifying the impact of universities issued by the Times Magazine for Higher Education – ryan
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaost) continues to enhance its position as a leading model in innovation and education in the region, as it reflects how the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia contributes to achieving distinguished scientific and technical achievements through sustainable practices. The university’s efforts in the field of sustainability have received a continuous appreciation of the “Impact of Universities” classifications issued by the Times Journal of Higher Education (The Impact Rankings, as Cost this year has achieved a historic achievement by entering the list of the best 100 universities globally for the first time.
Kaost has achieved a prominent global achievement, after it came among the 10 best universities in the world in two main goals of the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations, namely: the eleventh goal related to cities and sustainable local communities, and the fourteenth goal of underwater life. Kaost was also classified among the 20 best universities in the sixth goal of clean water and healthy hygiene, in addition to the seventeenth goal concerned with making partnerships to achieve goals.
At the level of the Arab world, Kaost ranked fifth among Arab universities, and the third at the level of Saudi universities. Its regional distinction continued to lead the first Arab position in goal 11 (cities and sustainable local communities) and target 14 (underwater life), which reflects its deep commitment to support the sustainable development agenda through research, innovation and international cooperation.
In this context, the President of the University, Professor Edward Bernin, said, “The sustainability represents a key axis in the Kaost message. We use science and innovation to provide solutions to the world’s urgent challenges, while strengthening a comprehensive and durable society within the Caust and with our partners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
The distinguished performance of the university is also attributed to its extensive partnerships with the government and private sectors, which contributed to supporting the development of sustainable trade and marketing policies.
For her part, Professor Anna Margaraida Costa, head of sustainability at Kaost, commented, “This new classification confirms that Kaost is speeding up her efforts towards achieving sustainability through education, research, innovation, employment and community participation. The unlawful approach followed by the university, which focuses on realistic applications and partnerships inside and outside the Kingdom, contributes to achieving a tangible impact on the two levels Local and global. “
In affirming its commitment to transparency and sustainable development, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaost) last May issued its annual sustainability report, which was prepared by the sustainability office at the university, to highlight its advanced achievements within the seventeen goals of sustainable development set by the United Nations.
The report reviews a number of leading initiatives that reflect the vital role of Caust in facing global challenges, among them the development of innovative devices to collect water from the solar powered atmosphere, with the aim of providing affordable drinking water in arid areas, and using advanced computer imaging and analysis techniques to determine the areas most vulnerable to climate -related disasters, as well as creating vital medicines and reinforcements aimed at protecting coral reefs And recovering it, in a step that enhances the sustainability of marine ecosystems, and the report also reviews the four centers of excellence in the Kaost, which focuses on supporting the pillars of national research, development and innovation in the Kingdom.
These achievements embody a long -term commitment of Kaost to align its research and innovative efforts with the priorities of the Kingdom of the Kingdom, which include diversification of energy sources, food and water security, the promotion of health care, and the development of future sectors – priorities that are clearly reflected in the United Nations goals for sustainable development and all aim to raise the quality of life.
