Kesha Opens Up About Secretly Getting Engaged and Why She Ended It – ryan
Songwriting helped Kesha realize she wasn’t ready to walk down the aisle.
In a new interview on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Upthe “Joyride” singer, 38, opened up about quietly getting engaged and revealed how she ultimately decided the relationship wasn’t right for her.
“Basically, I find that writing songs leads me to my truth,” said Kesha.
She explained, “I was engaged and I didn’t wanna be anymore and I didn’t even realize that I was gonna break up with him until I wrote a song about it, and then I listened back to it, and I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m gonna break up with him now,’ but it led me to my truth ’cause I can’t lie in the song.”
“You can’t lie in a song,” urged Kesha, adding, “A, your song will suck, but also, that’s not what it’s there for, you know?”
Previously, Rolling Stone reported the Grammy-nominated artist wrote the song “Too Far Gone” for 2023’s Gag Order after breaking off an engagement.

Kesha hasn’t revealed who she was engaged to. In recent years, she’s been linked to health-tech entrepreneur Michael Gilvary, film producer Riccardo Maddalosso and former longtime boyfriend Brad Ashenfelter, whom she was last seen with in 2021.
Today, the “Tik Tok” singer has a better idea of what she wants romantically. “I have explored non-monogamy. I’ve been in love with many, many men and many, many women, and currently where I’m at is I am looking for a sugar daddy,” she told PEOPLE last month.

“I love being able to just be open and honest about it, because I’m f—ing into somebody taking care of me, putting me on a pedestal, taking me on their yacht and flying me on their plane,” explained Kesha. “I’m just into it, and I will not feel shame about that.”
Looking to her past helped the “Delusional” musician visualize her ideal future relationship. “I’ve dated a lot of very cool, very broke hipsters with very bad attitudes, and so I’m trying to swing the pendulum 180 degrees and go in the entirely opposite direction,” she said. “I want someone that goes to an office building because they own the office building.”
